NEW ITEM MODEL 97 PUMP ACTION SHOTGUN

MODEL 97 TRENCH GUN

Faithful reproduction of a weapon utilized in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.  Originally used with great effectiveness in World War I trench warfare this weapon remained unchanged through it’s long service use.  After WWI the shotgun remained in both the Army and Marine Corps inventories.  Officially designated after WWI as the “Shotgun, Riot Type, with Bayonet Attachment and Hand Guard”.

Used Stateside for guard duty, prison use and other non-combat roles.  Overseas it was used for guarding supplies, and prisoners in addition to it’s combat role.  Because of the fast moving warfare in ETO the shotgun was not used widely on that front.  However in the Pacific Theater shotguns were in the hands of Marines in virtually every campaign of the war.  Early battle use  was in the Makin Island operation, Tulagi and Guadalcanal.  Later battles saw wide use of the shotgun in New Georgia, Bougainville, the Marshalls, Kwajalein, Guam, Pelelui, the Marianas, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.  The jungle environment  with it’s many bunkers and caves made the shotgun a very valuable close-combat weapon.  It was surpassed in effectiveness only by the water-cooled machine gun.

The bayonet lug was designed to mount a M1917 Enfield Rifle Bayonet.
